When preparing files, did you know that spot color naming conventions must match between Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop to separate properly?

Create vector art with as few points/nodes as possible. This is especially important if using auto-trace software and when creating clipping paths in Photoshop.
Whenever possible, avoid using individual lines to create frames. It is extremely difficult to align rules to create perfect corners.
If a file crashes on a laser printer or while it’s distilling, it will probably crash when submitted to a RIP.
Incomplete files, which are missing fonts and/or images, can be the number one cause for missed deadlines. Sending low resolution image files is one of the most common problem, 300 dpi is the best.
Images should be provided as EPS, PSD or TIFF format. RGB, JPG, GIF don't work. Remember all Alpha channels should be removed and non-printing colors should be deleted from the palette.
It helps to provide layered PSD files in case additional work is needed.
The document size you create should be the exact trim size of your finished piece. Be sure to add one eighth of an inch (1/8") for bleed beyond the trim size of the document. A bleed is the extra area that extends past the edges of your document and will be cut away as part of finishing.
